I gave a talk at The Guardian with TechSoup last week on the topic “Data for Good.” Data is all the rage these days, but the question is how it can be used to make the world a better place? Ushahidi creates tools for crowdsourcing information and changing the way information flows, in other words, we are a data company.
We put that data to good use, trying to help organize info during disasters, crisis, revolutions, and bring transparency to issues such as corruption and harassment. With SwiftRiver, we are working to fix the filtration issue: as Clay Shirky puts it “it is not a data overload issue, it is a data filtration problem.”
My talk can be seen here at The Guardian.
