Life as a Presidential Innovation Fellow

Big news folks. I was recently selected as a Presidential Innovation Fellow focusing on Open Data for Global Development. My technical title is Special Advisor on Open Data and Innovation at USAID. It is a few month role, and this has been my first week. We jumped right into it, hosting a hackathon this weekend on food security called #Hack4Hunger. And I am still in a bit of culture shock from migrating from the Bay Area to DC. I have been pretty impressed with the passion and intelligence of my colleagues working on Digital Government Strategy, Open Data, and Innovation in the US Government. I remember being super proud when President Obama created the CTO of the USA position, thinking to myself “It is about time!” Now I get to work directly with the brilliance of Todd Park, trying to bring transparency and innovation to government and development. I would never have imagined it.

There is lot’s to do, but these teams have a dedication to making things happen that is unique.

Stay tuned this fall!
